DNA REPLICATION DNA Replication: The process by which 2 identical copies of DNA are made. Occurs during Interphase of the Cell Cycle. DNA must replicate itself before a cell divides for each new cell to have the correct amount of DNA. Target: I will be able to explain the process of DNA Replication. Pg. 99
Process of DNA Replication 1. The enzyme Helicase unwinds the DNA. This starts at a fixed point.
2. DNA nucleotides bond to complimentary bases (A, T, C, G)on each side of the DNA.
3. DNA Polymerase joins the nucleotides in a 5’ to 3’ direction on each strand.
4. DNA Polymerase proofreads the bases and fixes any mistakes.
When DNA replication is complete, you have two identical copies of DNA. DNA Replication Summary:
