JML Course Selection Timeline Teacher Recommendations: Teacher recommendations for all grade levels were loaded into Phoenix on January 20 th If the teacher recommended a level change you would have been contacted directly. To view your child's teacher recommendations log into ParentVUE and click on the Course Request tab. ◦English (Honors or Academic) ◦History (Honors or Academic) ◦Science (Honors or Academic) ◦Math (Next in Progression) ◦World Language for rising 8 th and 9 th (Level 1,2 or 3)
Rising 7 th Grade Timeline *Mrs. Kenworthy will meet with students during Keyboarding classes January 20-February 9 to complete course requests. * Students will select electives at that time. Core Class (Math, English, Science and History) recommendations and required electives (PE, Tech Ed and FACS) will all be pre loaded into StudentVUE. *Parents will have until February 28, 2016 to view and make changes to students electives via Student/ParentVUE. Instructions on how to make changes will be sent via . *If you would like to discuss a level change to a Core Course please contact Mrs. Kenworthy directly as you will not be able to make the changes directly in Student/ParentVUE.
7 th Grade Required Courses: Grade Level or Honors in the following: English Life Science U.S. History Math: Students currently in Math 6 will go to Math 7. Students currently in Accelerated Math 6/7 will go to Algebra 1 (HS Credit). **Students will NOT make Core selections, they will be automatically uploaded based on recommendations Also Required: Health and P.E. Technology Education & Family and Consumer Science (one semester of each) **All 7 th graders will have 45 minutes of Resource or Spectrum**
7 th Grade Elective Courses All 7 th Graders will choose ONE Fine Arts Elective: Band 7 (must be currently enrolled in Band 6) Strings 7 (must be currently enrolled in Strings 6) Chorus Guitar 7 Art 7 All 7 th Graders will choose ONE Language Elective: Communication Studies Yearbook Communications (Interest form must be completed) Spanish 1, German 1, Latin 1, French 1 (high school credit) (not all students should start World Language in 7 th grade, but it is the only way to reach AP level by Senior year)

Grade 8 World Language World Languages and Cultures Level I or II in: Spanish, German, Latin or French

Expunging Grades Any high school course taken during middle school. Once expunged, the grade AND credit are gone. Students would need to retake the course in order to receive credit or to move onto subsequent levels. Expungement forms will be sent home with all Rising 8 th and 9 th grade FINAL report cards. Forms MUST be submitted to the Counseling Departments NO LATER than August 15, 2015: Rising 9 th Graders: Submit forms to FHS Rising 8 th Graders: Submit forms to JML (Mrs. Calderone)
Summer Options Some students decide to take a math course in the summer to accelerate their course work. Online Courses-dependent on LCPS budget -Typical Courses offered are Algebra 1 and Geometry. -Math 7 is also typically offered as a new course. -Information is provided to counselors in May, and will be forwarded to parents at that time. -Typical cost approximately $700
TJ and AOS Timeline-8 th grade year The process to apply to BOTH of these schools begins in the Fall of 8 th grade. Both schools host open houses/info session in the Spring, please go to their websites to get details. JML will have information sessions for both schools in the Fall, dates TBD. Students must be enrolled in Algebra 1 or higher during their 8 th grade year in order to apply.
College & Career Readiness in 7th! What JML students are doing with Family Connection: Enrichment Programs Exploration- 6 th -7 th grade -Take and Complete Cluster Finder-6 th Grade -Career Cluster information is used for our big event: Day at Work in March -Road Trip Nation Exploration-7 th Grade -Students view interviews of various professionals/course planning and course selection Current college/post secondary students visit 7 th grade resource classes
