Journal Entry What influences your food choices?

Good Nutrition Calories are the units of heat that measure the energy used by the body and the energy that foods supply to the body This is the energy the fuels everything Nutrients are the substances in food that your body needs to grow, to repair itself and to supply energy

Hunger vs Appetite A natural physical drive that protects you from starvation When the stomach is empty the walls contract sending signals to the brain. Appetite is the desire to eat, not the need. Have you ever eaten anything just because friends are eating or food is offered?

Food and Emotions Do you eat more or less when you feel stressed, frustrated or depressed? Do you eat when you are bored? Do you reward yourself with food when you achieved a goal? If you eat more this can lead to over eating and unhealthy weight gain. If you eat too little you might not be getting the nutrients you need in your daily diet

Food and your Environment Family and friends Eating habits can be shaped based on the meals provided for them by parents, but also friends can influence you to try new foods. Cultural and ethnic background Food choice can reflect your cultural background

Convenience/Cost and Advertising Speed and cost of food can determine the food that is eaten. Advertising Music, colors and characters stick in your mind to convince you to buy food.
