 What Qualifies Individuals for Temple Work :  Deceased for 1 year and 1 day  A date and a place for a vital event (birth, marriage, death, burial, baptism, etc.)  Respect living family members wishes  If no death information was found, you must wait at least 110 years after the birth date (July 1900)  Determine if individuals died before 8 years of age  Make sure temple ordinances are not already completed

Here is an example of someone who lived to be 104

Respect Living Family Members Wishes Why do I have to get permission from the closest living relative to do ordinances for someone who was born in the last 95 years? It is a Church policy that permission be obtained before doing temple work for an individual who is not your immediate relative. This policy ensures that we respect the rights of those who are more directly related to the individual for whom the work is being done. If you are the closest living relative (in this order: spouse, child, parent, sibling), then you can grant permission yourself.
