18/02/2013TALENT Meeting – A. Sciuccati3 The current ATLAS beam pipe will be extracted and replaced by the IBL package In order to study the IBL thermo-mechanical behavior and validate the beam pipe design, tests are performed on a mock-up of the IBL Mock-up differs from the IBL in some aspect (material, geometries, loads and boundary conditions) To establish a connection between the mock-up and the IBL package, thermo- mechanical simulations are essential Furthermore, instead of a locally evaluation of the interesting parameters also the complete field distribution can be obtained FEM/CFD modelization of the mock-up during the two more difficult phases (bake-out and service operation) will be performed An accurate numerical evaluation of the mock-up behavior allow the correct estimation of the thermo-mechanical load/deformation on the IBL Introduction
