Engineering Design and Development The Icing on the Cake! Presented by: Ashley Gregory, EDD Instructor Ritenour High School

EDD – What is it? TEAMWORK RESEARCH DESIGN DEVELOPMENT PROBLEM SOLVING COMMUNICATION REAL LIFE!

TEAMWORK Students work on a design team for the entire year. This process helps simulate a real- world workplace experience. How students choose their teams is VERY important!

RESEARCH Students choose a problem that they could solve by creating an innovative product or process. This stage requires a lot of research as students try to justify and validate not only their problem selection, but their preliminary design ideas.

DESIGN Students come up with their designs through a series of sketches, 3D Modeling, and building a mock- up.

DEVELOPMENT Students present their design ideas in order to get feedback on how they should proceed. Students refine their designs.

PROBLEM SOLVING Students learn how to be good problem solvers through this process. Even more important than solving a problem is being able to explain the process behind their decision-making.

COMMUNICATION The most beneficial aspect of this course is the communication piece: – Group – Instructor – Mentors – Peers – Target Market – Panel of Experts
