❖ 1) MAP Review ❖ 2) MAP Testing Procedures ❖ 3) What’s Next? Today’s Focus

NWEA Language The Organization Northwest Evaluation Association NWEA (Portland, OR) The Test Measure of Academic Progress (MAP) The Score Rasch UnIT (RIT) “The student took the NWEA MAP test and got a RIT of 230.”

What MAP Measures ❖ Math ❖ Reading ❖ Language (grammar and usage) RIT Scores

Big Picture Thinking ❖ No way to “teach to the test” ❖ Based on overall learning, grades K-9 (not just what you learned in unit) ❖ Charts progress over time (years) ❖ You will be looking at the same exact scale (unlike CST) ❖ Assessment OF Learning vs. Assessment FOR Learning (autopsy vs. MRI)

Nuts & Bolts ❖A❖A computerized assessment (multiple choice format) ❖4❖ questions per test. ❖U❖Untimed: Approximately 50 minutes per test. ❖G❖Given 3 times a year (Fall, Winter, Spring) ❖T❖Takes place of District Benchmarks ❖T❖Test will adjust in difficulty based on student answers (optimal test: 50% of questions correct; 50% incorrect) ❖A❖Aligned to State Standards ❖A❖Accurately predicts CST results

National Connections Armando 4th Grade Student Math RIT Score = 192 Q. How does Armando compare to the national norms for 4th grade math?

National Connections Armando 4th Grade Student Math RIT Score = 192 Q. How does Armando compare to the national norms for 4th grade math? A: Equivalent to the avg. 3rd grader at the beginning of the school year. Q: If Armando were to take the CST today, what performance level would he most likely score?

National Connections Armando 7th Grade Student Math RIT Score = 192 Q. How does Armando compare to the national norms for 4th grade math? A: Equivalent to the avg. 3rd grader at the beginning of the school year. Q: If Armando were to take the CST today, what performance level would he most likely score?
