WP15: Data management 1. Observations: Field Work (sediment cores & water column; sections, time series stations, moorings, etc.) Mesocosm Experiments Laboratory Experiments Challenges: Moderate data volume but very large variety of data types, parameters and formats. Many PIs involved.
WP15: Data management 2. Model Output: Results from regional and global EPOCA models Challenges: Very large data volume but limited variety of parameters and data formats (netCDF).
Implementation 1.Observations: WDC- Mare (S. Pesant, A.-M. Nisumaa) Quality control by individual PIs Importance of metadata 2.Model Output: Catalogue of model runs including PI contact information Core experiments available through online system (J. Orr, L. Bopp, N.N.)
etc.
ODV Usage Observations Model Output
Data sharing policy To be established by M3 Objective: Promote open access of observational data and model results to EPOCA PIs while protecting the intellectual property rights of the data producers. Timeline: Delivery to EPOCA database 3 months after data creation. Proprietory rights period of 2 years. Data usage by EPOCA and external partners with permission of originator strongly encouraged to maximize scientific output. Data publicly available 2 years after data creation.
In case of conflicts: Panel for protection, dissemination, and exploitation of knowledge. It will monitor and give recommendations to the EB on priorities aimed at encouraging and promoting data and information exchange in a timely and efficient manner. It will also propose a data policy with binding rules for all project partners and oversee the data management. Members Peter Burkill Reiner Schlitzer (Chair) Markus Weinbauer
