OURSTORY.COM Make Collaborative Timelines By Nancy Brown

Use Our Story in Education: Students can…  Add stories, photos, and videos to make a timeline of an historical event.  Develop collaboration skills by working with classmates.  Learn to use the facts that they find while doing research to create a unique product.

Sample OurStory Timeline Here is a sample timeline that shows events related to the Endangered Species status of wolves. Wolves Timeline Let’s create a timeline!

Getting Started With OurStory 1. Create an account at OurStory.com. Then, minimize the screen. 2. Using your assigned topic, locate three images on the World Wide Web that you could use to represent your three events. Save them to a folder on your computer as JPEG files.

Making Your Timeline 1. In OurStory, click on the “Add Story” tab when your account is open. 2. You’ll need to create a “story” for each event on your timeline. Type in a title listing for your first event. 3. Add a date following the formatting instructions. 4. Click “Add Photo”. Use the Browse feature to locate the photo that matches this event. Upload it. 5. In the large open textbox, type a more detailed description explaining your event. 6. Click the green “Save” button.

Viewing Your Timeline 1. Continue to add events one by one using the “Add Story” tab. 2. When all of your events and photos are loaded, navigate to the “My Timelines and Stories” tab. 3. Your events and photos will be mapped out on a timeline at the bottom of this page. Click “View your playable timeline” button to see your transitioning timeline. 4. You can change the title of your Timeline by clicking on it. The default title gives your name to the timeline. 5. You can edit your stories from this page as well. Just find the appropriate story at the bottom of the page, and click “Edit” to make changes.

Other Features of OurStory Collaboration: Click on the “Collaboration tab. Add friends’ addresses to get their help on your timeline. Formats for Sharing
