Luke

Was a physician. Called to be a “messenger of Jesus Christ”. Was a Gentile by birth. He was well educated in Greek, culture and language. Did not witness the events of the Savior’s life, but became acquainted with them through others. He was Paul’s companion at various times, during Paul's 2 nd and 3 rd journeys. Author of Acts. Luke

* Background: Luke was written before Acts, probably between A.D *As a writer: He wanted the Gentiles to come to the same knowledge of the truth he had. (Luke writes this testimony so his friend Theophilus, probably also a Greek convert, would know the truth about Jesus Christ).

In the Book of Luke: *It is the longest Book in the New Testament. *Was not a Jew, but gives meanings to Hebrew words *Presents Jesus as the Son of God. *Narrates events of the humanity of Christ. *Adds the genealogy back to Adam. *Adds a detailed account of the life of Jesus’ mother, Mary and His childhood. *Much material focuses on women, the poor, and the lower class. *Provides a hope through the life and atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ to all the people. *Especially concerned with the mission to the Gentiles.
