Objective: Students will solve algebraic equations using models.

Fraction Tile Procedures Keep tiles on the desk. Respect teacher direction of when to use tiles and when not to use tiles. Make sure everything you start with gets back in the bags. Take 3 minutes to become familiar with your tiles.

When we are working with fractions we need common denominators which is another way of saying equivalent fractions.

Modeling If the Pacific Ocean covers 1/3 of Earth’s surface, and the Atlantic Ocean covers ¼ of Earth’s surface, find the fraction of Earth’s surface covered by both oceans.

Guided Shawna picked ¾ quart of blueberries. She ate 1/12 of the blueberries she picked. How much was left?
