Preparation Complete self-assessment (e.g. Personality inventory, interest surveys) Identify skill, abilities, and talents Set short-term and long-term goals Identify strengths and weaknesses Know Yourself

Corporate philosophy/ practices Growth patterns Expansion plans Sales/Assets/Earnings Products and/or services Size/Number of locations Competition (theirs) Preparation cont’d Know Company/Organization

Personality Be yourself, not what you think they want you to be Be genuine Find a balance between extremes(e.g. reserved vs. talkative Check Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde at the door

Presentation Relax. Turn nervous energy into positive Listen attentively Answer questions clearly, and completely Ask for clarification of questions Ask questions

Practice You only get better by practicing. It is no different with interviewing. Have family, friends, classmates ask you questions directed towards a particular job or career. Ask your self questions and answer the out loud. Use campus resources, videotapes, or print materials to learn techniques.

Practice Cont’d The more you practice, the more you become familiar with questions and how you answer them. DO NOT use real interviews for practice because it will not allow you to be genuine (hence, personality above)
