Active Teaching- Active Learning

Tell me, I forget. Show me, I remember. Involve me, I understand Tell me, I forget. Show me, I remember. Involve me, I understand. Ancient Chinese Proverb

Method- a way of teaching a language which is based on systematic principles and procedures, i.e., which is an application of views on how a language is best taught and learned. (Longman Dictionary of Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics) A number of methods are often used, either individually, or within other methods.

Active teaching- an approach to teaching which seeks to increase achievement by focusing the teacher’s attention on specific , analytical, and academic objectives. Attention is given to promoting student success in learning through a teacher-directed style of teaching in which the teacher provides a favorable climate for learning. (Longman Dictionary of Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics)

Teaching styles

Active methods : • Give the learner feedback on their incomplete understandings and encourage them by helping each other. • Give the teacher feedback on which learners understand, and who needs help • Develop thinking skills such as analysis, problem solving, and evaluation

• Help learners to use their learning in realistic and useful ways • Create deeper learning and higher achievement • Are more fun! Active learning is much better recalled, enjoyed and understood.

What the learner does is more important than what the teacher does What the learner does is more important than what the teacher does. Geoff Petty
