Honors Geometry 26 Aug 2011 Place your homework on the corner of your desk. silently Warm-up (silently): Do page 33, problems 13 – Remember your headings---- name date Geo X P__ Warm Up

Objective Students will encounter some of the most basic undefined terms and definitions of geometry. Students will write answers on white boards as they review terms before taking a quiz. UPCOMING DUE DATE Art Project- due Tuesday, August 30

HOMEWORK- due today section 1.1 basic: #2-12, 18, 28 check your answers REMEMBER to ALWAYS…… Start by briefly writing what is req’d/ basic info Include sketch (neatly freehand) Bring signed syllabus slip. ART PROJECT DUE AUGUST 30

important distinctions…. Two ways to express the length of a segment FG = 12 or m = 12 Two segments of the same length are congruent. It is important to remember that the equals symbol, = is used between equal numbers or measures, and the congruence symbol,, is used between congruent figures.

Congruence- see page 31 do example…. How do we indicate congruence on a figure? Write the measures of a segment on the figure Use congruent marks on the figure Don’t ASSUME!!!! Just because segments LOOK like they have the same measure DOES NOT necessarily mean they HAVE the measure…..

Midpoint The midpoint is a point that divides the segment into two congruent segments. practice : make a sketch and show your work on your warm up paper 1) name each midpoint and the segment it bisects 2) name all congruent segments using the congruence symbol. A B C D P

white board review Each student gets a small white board, one marker and one paper towel or wipe rag. Please send one person up from your group to get supplies for your group.

Quiz- Naming and Labeling During quizzes there is to be silence. ANY talking will result in a quiz grade of ZERO without a chance to make it up. If you have a question, raise your hand. You may begin as soon as you get your paper.
