Using 123Design There are lots of skills that even we haven’t learnt how to do yet! However we are going teach you a few key skills that will help you with your project.

Navigating around the screen When you are designing your shape you will need to look at the design from different views This cube gives you a variety of different viewpoints. You can also use the ‘pan’ tool to drag the mouse around the screen to change view.

Starting to draw on 123D The two most simple ways of drawing a shape is using the primitives (basic 3D shapes) or the 2D shapes.

Overlapping If you draw more than one 2D shape make sure that they overlap so that the computer knows you want them to be attached. If you want to change the size of your object you can click and drag the edges. (Don’t forget to change the view if you need to!)

Making a 2D shape 3D! Once you are happy with your outline you can ‘extrude’ it to pull up the edges at make it 3D. You will need to select all of the shapes to combine and pull them up.

Don’t forget to think about how deep you want your cookie cutter to be!

Is a cookie cutter a solid object? The shape we have created would have a top and a bottom – do we need our cookie cutters to have that? Why/Why not?

Removing faces to create a shell In order to create the cookie cutter we need to remove the top and the bottom Select the shell option and then choose the faces that you want to remove

Exporting our designs to the printer The printer uses something called an STL file so we need to change our 123dx files to an STL
