Mini-GPS2 and Canopy GPS Synchronization

Mini-GPS2 Takes advantage of the timing port Timing Over the Power Port has known issues M12+ GPS Receiver Same GPS receiver used by standard Canopy equipment Displays all satellite information on GPS Status page on all Canopy units Provides GPS synchronization to sixteen (16) Canopy units simultaneously

Mini-GPS2 Features Outdoor rated NEMA4 enclosure for outdoor mounting Operates on 110/220 VAC or 12-32 VDC Allows use of any custom networking device, including VLAN and Layer 3 options No firmware to fail or to continuously update Includes Timing 3000 GPS antenna and mounting hardware

GPS Synchronization and the Relationship to Canopy RF

Time Division Duplexing (TDD) GPS is used to enable Time Division Duplexing Method Canopy uses for data transmission Effective method of radio transmission Synchronizes the RF transmission and reception Radios only transmits or receive at once never both GPS is a worldwide clock for collective synchronization Does not turn on and off the RF transmitter

GPS and Canopy Spectrum Analysis TDD is highly favorable because of the amount of the frequency spectrum that each Canopy unit covers. A full Canopy RF signal covers almost 40MHz in the 2.4GHz, 5.2GHz, and 5.7GHz frequency bands.

GPS and Canopy Spectrum Analysis The amount of spectrum used is also important for frequency layout throughout a Canopy network. GPS will help to insure all radios are in unison.

Canopy GPS Synchronization GPS controls RF transmission cycle by TDD GPS does not control the RF signal power level Without a sync (GPS or Generating Sync an AP/BH will not transmit at all GPS is required at all locations where a Canopy radio is in range of another Canopy radio of the same frequency band. Including remotely installed APs. Problems with a conflicting synchronization are seen in data packet loss (ping times, etc)
