2 RatCAP - Rat Conscious Animal PET: Allows the effects of anesthesia to be assessed The Problem: Current small animal PET imaging instruments are limited by the need to use anesthesia which can profoundly depress brain function. The 9th International Conference: Peace through Mind/Brain Science The effect of anesthetics on the uptake of β-CFT on the dopamine transporter of the monkey brain. The effect of different anesthetics on the uptake of [ 18 F]Fluorodopa in various regions of the monkey brain. D.B. Stout et al, UCLA 1998

Timeline of Bioengineering Projects  1999 – Start detector development for measuring blood radioactivity non-invasively with BNL LDRD funding and later with a CRADA with CTI, Inc.  2000 – DOE Biomedical Engineering grant for the beta microprobe  2001 – Expand the project to include the microprobe, motion tracking and imaging the awake animal. Received DOE funding for 3 years.  2003 – first electronic chip sent for fabrication. Received two NIH (NIBIB) grants for parts of this research effort.  2004 – First prototype of the animal scanner with the ASIC in place. Extension of DOE funding.

4 RatCAP - Project Collaborations lead to valuable expertise in related fields These projects are a collaboration between several departments and divisions at BNL, SUNY Stony Brook and LBNL Weekly meetings within BNL, and telephone contact with outside collaborators
