James Chadwick By: Christian and Ariyel

When and Where He Lived  Born- October 20, 1891 in Bollington, Cheshire, England  Died- July 24,1974 (age 82) in Cambridge, England

What Chadwick Did  Chadwick proved there was a neutron in atoms.  In 1935, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for his discovery.

Formula to Prove the Existence of Nuetrons

The Atom

Theories James Proved Wrong  He proved Rutherford's electron- proton pair to be incorrect.  James also proved that there were no free electrons in the nucleus of an atom.

Models and Experiments  The Discovery of The Nuetron- he used rays to find nuetrons.  He also created an artificial nuclear transformation.

Models and Experiments

His Contribution to The atomic Theory  He found the nuetron, one of the three elements in an atom.

About Chadwick  Chadwick was the son of John Joseph Chadwick and Anne Mary Knowles.  Chadwick went to many colleges until he was taken prisoner in WWI.  When he got out, he went back to colleges to later discovered neutrons and other methods.

Fun Facts  Chadwick was officially knighted in 1945 by King George VI in recognition of his accomplishments and contributions to the scientific community. He was known as Sir James Chadwick from that moment on.  During WWII, he helped research for the atomic bomb in the Manhattan Project.
