Air Quality 60 years ago. “Smog is a Serious Problem” People outside of L.A. are sending friends cans labeled, “Pure air. Caution, may be habit forming.” However this problem is being noticed in other large cities- San Francisco Rio de Janeiro Copenhagen New York Chicago Detroit Scientists: A.J. Smit and Frits Went have studied the Phenomenon which was thought to be smoke and fog. It was rather found to be a deadly combination of High Octane Gas vapor- they stated that the situation becomes really serious when the “so-called” inversion layers of the atmosphere bring the Toxic gases to low altitudes…………

Fleet/Transportation 1.1 st electric car purchased in natural gas 3.Subsidized and encouraged public transportation 4.9% of our population riding public transportation 5.Company vehicle monitoring for driver behavior and MPG efficiency 6.Van share program giving rides from Trax stations to work when <10 miles

Energy 23% reduction in energy by moving to on-demand steam at TOSH. Our approach to Modular boilers at Intermountain was intuitive. We have known load conditions at our hospitals. We only need to create energy when we are using it. This technology allows us to turn on and off these boilers without harming them.

Certified seafood locally produced produce and food Food placement initiative to encourage healthy choices All Styrofoam cups replaced with paper product or washable 23% of our total waste stream is recycled 7% on regulated medical waste 1.5 million pounds to 4.3 million pounds in recycling Last Year. Alta View Hospital first facility to meet or exceed goals for waste, several more getting close Solid Waste 58%,Recycling 37%,Regulated Medical Waste 5%
