Getting to the Dashboard Go to your WordPress site followed by the /wp-admin Example: skinnydipcandle.com/wp-admin This will take you inside your site to the dashboard
Dashboard Navigation Home Updates Posts Media Pages Appearance Plugins Users Tools Settings Video Tutorials
Dashboard Tab Brings up Home and Updates Home is the main Dashboard Updates will show you what needs to be updated (WordPress, themes, etc.
The Post Tab Posts are blog entries All Posts flyout opens up all Posts to date Add Posts opens up a new Post page
Media Tab The Media tab opens the Media Library This is where all photos and media of all types are stored to future access You can access stored media here You can also upload new media here
The Pages Tab Pages are static on the site These are pages generally appearing on the main navigation or in the dropdown tabs Pages tab will give you access to all existing pages on the website You can also add NEW pages here
Appearance Tab This a major section of the Dashboard Five main areas are accessed here Themes – where you load/access new themes Customize – areas to customize Widgets – sidebar and footer areas Menus – where you set up the main navigation Editor – used to access original coding
Plugins Tab Plugins tab is where you add more site functionality Can access plugins already installed Can add new plugins Update icon will let you know when plugins need to be updated
Users Tab This is where you manage who has access to the dashboard and in what capacity
The Tools Tab Shows you the tools that are available Allows importing of blogs from WordPress.com, Blogger.com, etc. Allows for exporting of the site to move elsewhere
Settings Tab This is a vital tab – website configurations occur under settings available General – main site settings Writing – specifying some default setting Reading – sets whether site is primarily driven by static page or by blog posts Discussion – settings related to comments Media – sets defaults for certain media Permalinks – sets how page urls are displayed Optional plugin settings may end up here as well
