Homeschooling BY: AMY QUALKINBUSH

INTASC Standard….  Standard #2: Learning Differences  The teacher uses understanding of individual differences and diverse cultures and communities to ensure inclusive learning environments that enable each learner to meet high standards.

The Background of Homeschooling….  Homeschooling has been around for a very long time. It’s been around as long as houses have existed. Most people were educated by family members.  In 1980 about half of the united states legalized homeschooling. Then in 1993 home schooling became legal in every state.  Around the late 1700’s home schooling consisted mostly of house chores and basic reading and mathematics for the kids with parents that understood reading and math.  Some parents didn’t think that they knew enough literature or math skills to teach at home so they’d either hire someone to come to their home.

Pros of Homeschooling PROS  Educational freedom… You can teach students what it is you want. There are basics but there isn’t a time period they must know it by.  Physical freedom… Some parents say that they don’t have to revolve their schedule around school hours, homework, and vacation time.  More stability during a difficult time- If there maybe a death in the family or illness it helps the family to cope better while homeschooling. PROS continued….  Students who are home schooled will be well rested.  Not as many distractions.  These here are very good points for why we all should home school.  Our kids will pay more attention because they are in a more stable environment, they have physical freedom, educational freedom and they will be better rested.

Cons of Homeschooling CONS  You child will be limited on activities such as school sports, clubs, and anything that could be a stress reliever.  Financial Strains- This could affect your family if you are struggling with money and you could use an extra income.  Spending too much time with your child. Depending on your family spending too much time can cause a lot of arguments. CONS Continued…  Most families send their children to public or private schools. It’s different to see people homeschooling still so people will think it’s a little odd.  Time restrain- It takes up a lot of the parents time. It can be very draining for some parents.

Ending Question..  Are you for homeschooling? Is this something that you think you will do with your children?  Do you think that homeschooling keeps children from making friends and becoming their own person?
