Extinction OF THE CHIMPANZEE

The Chimpanzee

Facts  Chimpanzee’s are omnivores, they eat a wide variety of foods ranging from bark, insects, bugs, eggs and they also hunt monkeys as well.  A common mistake with Chimpanzee’s is they are considered monkey’s, this is not true at all because they are all Apes.  The differences between communities are sometimes so profound that researchers have determined that chimpanzees have what amounts to cultural differences. Just as a person in the US differs culturally from a person in Japan, for example, so does a chimp in Gombe, Tanzania differ culturally from a chimp in Tai Forest, Ivory Coast.

Baby Chimp

Reason Of Extinction  Deforestation is a very big reason, this is because the natural habitat of a Chimpanzee is the forest. If we take there homes away, they wont have anywhere to live. This may cause starvation because of lack of food in there new home and may be vulnerable to predators of the wild.  Chimpanzee’s are the Humans closest relative. This means that they are the most similar to us. This means they are also vulnerable to a vast amount of human diseases. If this keeps up, then there will not be many apes left at all.

Natural Habitat Of Chimp

How we can protect them  Conserving Habitat. Loss of habitat, due in large part to demands of a growing human population, is one of the greatest threats to the survival of chimpanzees. Conserving Habitat.  Rescuing chimp orphans. JGI protects the youngest victims of the illegal bushmeat trade –chimpanzees who’ve lost their mothers. Rescuing chimp orphans.  Raising awareness. The threats to chimpanzees are exacerbated by a lack of information and awareness – the kind of knowledge that inspires individuals, communities and policymakers to protect wildlife. Raising awareness.

Protection of Chimps

Why Should we protect Chimpanzee’s?  The Chimpanzee’s are our closest relative as I stated in the previous slide. But what does this even have to do with there protection? It is because they are the reason we are all alive now, they are part of the whole Evolution concept.  We have also taken away majority of their homes, forests, so we owe it to them to help protect there species.
