COLLEGE ASSESSMENT TEST PREP Come as prepared as you can be!

Assessment is required for all first-time, new to Cerritos College students prior to enrollment at Cerritos College. Tests your knowledge, strengths and needs in English, Math, & Reading. ■Online format ■Multiple Choice ■Adaptive ■It is NOT timed ■Average time is 2 ½ hours ■120 questions * Accommodations can be made for students with disabilities. Ask your Counselor.

Course Sequence

English Placement If you place in AED then: ■5 semesters of English ■Tuition: $2, Compared to placing in English 100: ■2 semesters of English ■Tuition: $833

Math Placement If you place in AED then: ■5 semesters of Math ■Tuition: $2, Compared to placing in Math 80: ■2 semesters of Math ■Tuition: $833

Assessment Placement ■Where you place on the Assessment will determine HOW LONG you will be in college! ■Your placement can cost you missed pay: –Cost per class at Cerritos College: $ –One year pay at minimum wage: $18,720 –One year salary after AA: $37,500 –One year salary after Bachelor’s: $45,478

Math Assessment ■Arithmetic - measures your ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and to solve problems that involve fundamental arithmetic concepts. ■Elementary Algebra - measures your ability to perform basic algebraic operations and to solve problems involving elementary algebraic concepts. ■College Level - measures your ability to solve problems that involve college-level mathematics concepts. * Results post on your Cerritos College account in hours.

English Assessment ■Sentence Skills - measures your ability to understand what you read, to identify main ideas and to make inferences. ■Reading Comprehension - measures your understanding of sentence structure — what makes a sentence complete and clear.

ESL Assessment ■Language Use - measures a student's proficiency in using correct grammar in English Sentences. ■Sentence Meaning - measures how well students understand the meaning of sentences in English. ■Reading Skills - measures a student's ability to read English through the comprehension of short passages.

What to expect ■No calculators allowed. If the Accuplacer wants you to use a calculator, they provide one on the screen. ■No headphones or earbuds – no phones out or on. ■Scratch paper and pens ARE allowed

Test Taking Tips Plan ahead – Prepare! Get a good night’s sleep When feeling anxious, take 2-3 slow deep breaths These tests are not timed Pace yourself Take time to carefully read the instructions and questions

Test Taking Tips – con’t Process of elimination – narrow the answers down. If you narrow it down to two that could be correct, you’ve increased your odds to 50/50. Arrive early – don’t feel rushed Eat a good meal before the test Questions during the test? ASK staff!
