Hittites Super power located in modern day Turkey, Syria, and Iraq with fringe elements in Canaan. Abraham purchased his burial plot from Ephron, a Hittite. Hittites served as high ranking military officials in King David’s Army. Storm gods were prominent in their religion with one of the main gods known as “The Conqueror” or “King of Heaven

Amorites A subculture of the Canaanites People of great stature (almost giants) Occupied the land East and West of the Jordan River The first enemies Israel encountered on their way to the promised land.

Perizzites Located in the hill country that was allotted to Judah and Benjamin. They were conquered but not destroyed Later enslaved by King Solomon Israel intermarried with them and adopted their idolatress practices

Hivites Located in the mountainous region from Jerusalem northward to Syria Renown for deceiving Joshua (Joshua 9:3-27) Israel entered into a covenant with them. They remained in the promised land as a reminder of a failed conquest due to a illegitimate covenant The deceiver remained

Jebusites Subculture of the Amorites Occupied the mountains around Jerusalem Defeated but not dislodged Religion was similar to Israel’s - same God: El Elyon This is possibly why they remained Finally conquered by King David Two prominent Palestinian leaders claim they are descendants of the Jebusites: Yasir Arafat, Faisal Husseini

THE PROMISED LAND In order to begin occupying the land one must: Make the decision to go to battle. Identify the first enemy you will encounter. Prepare for the battle. Fight to win.
