Our fundamental principle is that, working in partnership with government and students all qualified individuals should be able to attend university regardless of their financial status.  Government Student Assistance Programs, e.g. OSAP osap.gov.on.ca  University Programs ◦ Scholarships ◦ Bursaries ◦ Work Study & Research Assistantships ◦ Financial Payment Arrangements 11

 OSAP is based on family size, income, and number of dependents attending post secondary, and full-time or part-time status. There is an OSAP Estimator on the OSAP web siteOSAP web site  OSAP is not designed to cover 100% of expenses.  Main program but amount depends upon numerous factors 12 Federal and Provincial Maximum LoanWith Grants Single$11,680$15,000 Married$18,080$24,000

 A few examples of grants within the program 13

 The Ontario Student Opportunity Grant (OSOG) is available to help students reduce their annual debt. It limits the amount of the student loan that eligible students are required to repay  $7,400 per two-term year of study (e.g., fall and winter)  $11,100 for a three-term study year (e.g., fall, winter, summer)  Will be indexed each year effective 2016/17  Determined after the completion of each study period within an academic year.  The grant is applied directly to your outstanding loan amount. 14

 Increased support ◦ Vehicles are no longer considered an asset ◦ Ontario 30% off tuition grant for students from families that make less than $160,000. ◦ Indexing student aid to inflation (effective 2016/17)  Ease of use ◦ Electronic confirmation of enrolment ◦ Online submitting of required documents ◦ Need only to complete one loan agreement and signature pages. ◦ Students can now receive funding in advance of the first day of classes 15

The Ontario 30% off tuition grant was introduced in W’11 and increased participation in OSAP. OSAP grants and loans have increased 45% when compared to 2010/11 and the number of recipients increased 27%. In the same time frame enrolment increased 5% 16 38% of Guelph students are receiving OSAP

 Scholarships & Bursaries (Domestic & International) ◦ Entrance ◦ In-course  Work Study (Domestic & International)  Undergraduate Research Assistantships (Domestic)  Financial Payment Arrangements  Graduate funding may include: ◦ Scholarships (external & internal) ◦ Graduate Teaching Assistants ◦ Graduate Research Assistants ◦ Graduate Service Assistants 17

Merit Awards  Undergraduate ◦ University of Guelph Entrance scholarship program: guaranteed based on minimum Admission average of 85.0% regardless of need. ◦ Graduate ◦ Provides a minimum stipend of $17, for all domestic & international doctoral students for a period of three years. ◦ 95 entrance awards ◦ Full details can be found on the Graduate Services websiteGraduate Services website 18

19 In addition to the University’s guaranteed entrance scholarship, approximately $1 million in additional entrance scholarships were awarded.

 Combination of Funding ◦ Bursaries (undergraduate & graduate) ◦ Work Study (undergraduate & graduate) ◦ Undergraduate Research Assistantships ◦ Emergency Financial Assistance (undergraduate & graduate) ◦ Compassionate & Emergency Medical bursaries (undergraduate & graduate) 20

 Each year the University is required to set aside a portion of the revenue from annual domestic tuition increases and make it available in the form of need based assistance. Policies outline how TSA can be allocated. 21

On Campus Employment Work Study Program  On-campus part-time work experience for full-time Guelph students who demonstrate financial need  Approximately hours a week  Expected earnings of $3,000 per two semesters  700 students participated in 2014/15 Undergraduate Research Assistantship Program  Full-time summer research employment  Minimum expected earnings is $6,600  145 positions available for Summer

23 Students were completing financial arrangement to protect themselves until their OSAP funds were received. However, the majority of OSAP funding is received well in advance of the payment deadline date.  Students who are not able to meet the payment deadline dates can apply for a financial arrangement to make payments throughout their current semester.

 A number of merit & need-based awards including donor funded awards  Listing is available on Student Financial Services website, using the 24
