DO YOU NEED TO CHANGE …………. Are your resources current? Have your Student Dynamics changed – International Students / mature age students? Are you using version control? Are resources/ assessment events in electronic format or hard copy only? Are your teachers’ computer skills appropriate? Are you concerned with managing proposed changes to Training Package ?

OUR CHALLENGE WAS SET…….. Increase in demand for quality resources – decrease in time to develop resources – new Training Packages due soon Version control & electronic copies of current resources becoming more difficult – majority hard copy format Assessment events not updated regularly – “too hard basket” Student Dynamics changed – increase in number of international students (full time study + language/literacy levels = demand for quality resources) Student computer skill level challenging Teacher skill level

NSI–RYDE RECIPE FOR SUCCESS IN COMMERCIAL COOKERY Feedback on teacher/student resources currently in use in Commercial Cookery January 2005 – Research into OTHER resources available Early talks, negotiations, product review Products presented to teaching staff – comparison between 2 main runners Product/System needed to be flexible and adapted to our needs – RYDE TAFE Staff voted to proceed (1 vote against all change)

PROJECT PLANNING AND MANAGEMENT WORK COMMENCED …… RESEARCH/PLANNING PHASE IMPLEMENTATION PHASE CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT PHASE

TEACHER RESPONSIBLITIES Modules allocated to teachers – approximately 3 each Customising of Modules commenced Delivery Matrix Module outlines Session plans Assessment events developed – Assessment Matrix, Assignments, Tests, Marking Scales, etc. Electronic Food and Equipment Orders 4 Month Timeframe

OUR RECIPE TO INSPIRE CHANGE NEGOTIATE!! NEGOTIATE !! NEGOTIATE !! MENTOR ! MOTIVATE ! SUPPORT ! LIAISE/COMMUNICATE ! MONITOR !

RESPONSIBILITES IN MANAGING THE PROJECT Liaison with Company Licensing agreement – College and Institute level Stores - food orders, T drive access College Bookshop liaison Library (access to resources and training) AFE (access to resources and training) Computer support – set up computers, download of software, access and security issues, computer support in general Teacher training sessions – Full time and Part time approx 10 sessions Student Training sessions – 700 attended – 8 students no computers access Distribution of resource packages to teachers Feedback folders– regular T drive updates – continuous improvement Teachers allocated to teach their modules of responsibility for first semester

CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT WHERE TO FROM HERE ? Feedback/Review process Modify T drive – semester updates Resource Modifications – hardcopy Test/Assignment bank – planning for 2007 Computer skills training for staff - ongoing Project Funding for staff training Increase in computer equipment available for staff and students Teacher & Student survey Implementation extended to Food & Beverage and Hospitality Management
