Intro to Excretion. Excretion  Excretion –Release and removal of metabolic wastes  Metabolic Wastes  Excess water  Salts  Carbon Dioxide  Nitrogenous.
The urinary system. The urinary system consists of two kidneys, two ureters, one bladder and one urethra. Urine is formed in each of the kidneys as waste.
Excretory. Function Remove metabolic waste from the blood- Excretion Regulate H2O in blood Organs of excretion- Skin-water, salts and urea Lungs-CO2 Kidneys.

THE EXCRETORY SYSTEM. Function Removes waste products from the blood Cells produce wastes which move out of the cells and into the blood by diffusion.
Excretory System. Cellular Level  Involves transport of needed materials into and out of cells.
The Human Excretory System The function of the excretory system is to excrete (get rid of) wastes that are not helpful to the body.

Urinary System

Parts: Kidney Ureters Bladder Urethra

Kidney: Cattle and poultry are composed of various lobes or parts Horse’s right kidney is heart shaped and left kidney is bean shaped (picture) Sheep and swine are both bean shaped

Renal Cortex: Outer tissue layer of the kidney

Renal Artery: Conveys blood to the kidney

Renal Medulla: Inner portion of the kidney

How it works: Blood filters from the capillaries into the blind sac of the urinary tubules Urinary tubules network together and form larger tubules toward the center of the kidney where urine containing body wastes is collected

Kidney Functions: Filter waste from the blood Regulates blood composition Maintain normal internal life support conditions

Ureters: Tubules connecting the kidneys with the bladder Transport urine from kidney to the bladder

Bladder: Expandable sac Stores urine until urinated out of the body Fetal Pig Bladder below

Urethra: Passes urine from the bladder through this elastic tube. In the penis of males Connected to the vagina in females

Poultry: Have no bladder Urine is transported by the ureters to the cloaca where it is excreted with feces No liquid is excreted

Uric Acid: White material in droppings Urinary excretions
