World Language Teachers October 9, 2014

“To have a second language is to have a second soul” -Charlemagne

Goals and Objectives Utilize Haiku to support cross-site collaboration. Continue creating a bank of resources that support the teaching of World Languages as well as supporting Common Core literacy standards. Develop and share a detailed plan to support students in the acquisition of the Seal of Biliteracy. Make connections between key ELA/ELD Framework themes and World Language strategies and activities that support those themes

Essential Questions What impact would cross-district collaboration via Haiku have on instruction and student achievement as we integrate the 4 C’s through the implementation of A.I.R. and CCSS? How do we create an effective school-wide system to promote student development of a goal to achieve the State Seal of Biliteracy? How do we make learning connections for students between key ELA/ELD Framework themes and World Language classrooms?

Seal of Biliteracy Brainstorm a plan for presenting the Seal of Biliteracy to your students. Include: -When? -What materials will you need? -How will you further support students in the process of earning The Seal?

The CCSS Framework Please review the Key Themes of the ELA/ELD Framework (Handout). In particular, pay attention to the sections Making Meaning and Effective Expression. What could Making Meaning and Effective Expression look like in your World Language Classroom? Brainstorm strategies and activities that will foster student growth in these two areas. There is document to use to share your ideas on Haiku under the heading “Ideas to Explore”

Haiku Let’s continue our work from September 16 th and continue to add to our Haiku Page. Haiku Page: PUSD World Language PLC

Evaluation On your evaluation, please include some ideas for our next District PDD in November.
