Methods of Teaching Science Final By Alyssa Grannum Featuring : Inquiry Project Teacher Interview Field Trip

Inquiry Project

Reflection In this project I originally thought that it would be easy because I had everything planned out. I found that there were problems that I encountered like if the plants were actually going to grow. Through this experience I learned that sometimes things aren’t going to go the way you plan. Sometimes you have to make adjustments and change your plans so that the children are able to learn to their utmost potential. I found this inquiry project to be a challenge but I learned that plants don’t have to grow in the ground.

Teacher Interview Ex.Interview Questions(5th Grade Mrs. Gaither) How do you feel about teaching Science? I feel that science is an adequate part of a child’s education. I like teaching science because the children can learn things that they might not have known before. I can try and do fun experiments with the children so that they can see that not everything they have to learn doesn’t have to be paper and pencil and a textbook.

Reflection I found that when I was doing this interview I was at first a little apprehensive because I figured that I wouldn’t learn anything new. I was wrong about that. I learned that science needs to be an important part of the curriculum. Teachers need to try and somehow make science a huge part of everyday teaching. Because teachers don’t enforce science as much as reading and math, students aren’t really introduced to science and its experiments until the higher grades. I don’t plan on doing this at all. I plan on making Science an important subject that is introduced and discovered as much as possible. I learned that Science is something that is lacking in the classroom and I don’t plan on continuing that pattern.

Field Trip Paper Airplane Design Grades: 3-6 Duration: 60 minutes Description: Students gain an understanding of stability and aircraft design through hands- on activities and investigations. Students use experimental design, data collection, and graphing to create, manipulate, and test paper airplanes. They will also conduct paper airplane flight trials to explore the relationship between an airplane's center of gravity and flight stability.

Reflection This was an example of the type of field trip that you could take your class on. This was a fun activity because I had to plan out how I would conduct a field trip. I at first thought that this was going to be a tedious assignment. But once I began researching the type of field trip I would like to take my future students on along with the assignments that would accompany this activity I began to realize the endless possibilities for my students. I hope to be able to plan science field trips like this so that my students can have the complete “Science Experience.” I learned through research the way in which to plan a field trip. I never realized the possibilities of the different types of field trips.

End I have learned a lot of things in this class. I have learned different techniques as well as different activities to make science not only more fun but also make it educational so that children are getting the most from Science class. I can’t wait to be able to use what I have learned.
