Within the Sabah Economic Development Corridor agenda, there are many critical thrust areas to propel the State towards becoming a Knowledge-based economy

New Media Content Industries will be one of them

Industries utilizing digital technologies to create, process, publish, aggregate, package, archive and/or broadcast sound, text, graphics & visuals as fundamental components for content and applications creation for diverse multimedia platforms and purposes (education, entertainment, information, commerce, training, etc) What is New Media Content Industries ?

5 So a movie is content ; a TV or IPTV program is content ; a Blog or a website portal has content; online news is content; a training or educational video is content; a PC or console game is content; what you watch on your mobile phones is content; what you listen on the radio is content ; a ringtone is content; a simulated 3D program in a theme park is content; using 3D modeling to visualize the construction of a building is content: etc Where you “consume” the content of your choice is the media platform dictated by the accessibility and quality of the Telecommunications infrastructure (on TV, computer, mobile device, any screen, at shopping mall, in a moving vehicle, and literally anywhere)

Why is New Media environment important for organizational efficiency whether for Government or Private sector ?

The rakyat is getting IT savvy Most have mobile devices They regularly use Internet to get information, news and for shopping They watch programs on TV They do not like too much TEXT Exposed to media rich environment Therefore to get the attention of those we serve, we need to UTILIZE tools that will give us the leading edge

Funding to encourage, and generate, original IP creation (content & applications) for organizational effectiveness - organize competitions in Sabah to identify innovative submissions then the “winner” is given grant to develop prototype – can work in conjunction with local University or College “Green-laning” winners of State Govt programs and competitions to bigger funds Incentives for schools to establish Content Creation Clubs Incentives for clustering of companies in broadcasting, Webcasting, etc and service providers Incentives for private sector “pioneering” programs in both skills development and facilities and new infrastructure IP Creation Programs

Workshops & Labs for Govt and Govt agency staff to undergo basic “STORY TELLING”, “STORY STRUCTURE”, software, etc training Implement and/or support Capacity development programs with private sector & local IHLs (Kolej Yayasan Sabah, UMS, etc) Allow private sector to specailize Skills Development & Talent Pool Creation
