Thabit ibn Qurra

What he was famous for  Translation  Astronomy  Mathematics  Physics

 Translation He was fluent in Greek and Arabic. He rewrote Hunayn's translations of ptolemy’s Geography.  Astronomy According to Copernicus Thabit determined the length of the sidereal year as 365 days, 6 hours, 9 minutes and 12 seconds (an error of 2 seconds). He based his claim on Latin text. Thabit published his observations of the sun.

 Mathematics He wrote on the theory of numbers. He extended their use to describe the ratios geometrical quantities, a step which the Greek never took. He solved the chessboard problem. He also described Pythagoras theorem  Physics He proposed a theory of motion in which both the upward and downward motion are caused by weight.

Maria Gaetana Agnesi  Born May 16, 1718  Died January 9, 1799  she never was married and no children  She attended gulf coast community college

What she was famous for  Which of Agnesi

Which of Agnesi

 Agnesi wrote the equation of this curve in the form y = a*sqrt(a*x-x*x)/x because she considered the x-axis to be the vertical axis and the y-axis to be the horizontal axis.  yx 2 =a 2 (a-y) or y = a 3 /(x 2 + a 2 )

Adrien Marie Legendre  Born 1752  Died 1833  Was on married or have kids  He was French  He went to college mazarin

What he was famous for  Geometry

 He developed the least squares method which has broad application in linear regression, signal processing, statistics and curve fitting.
