SESSION 8: STRATEGIC PLANNING & GOALSSETTING District 3310 PETS 2010/11 1. Appreciate the meaning of Strategic Planning and why Strategic Planning is essential to the well being of the club. Strategic Planning forms an important part of the CLP. 2. Be able to work with Club leaders and members to develop or update the clubs’ Strategic plan. 3. Learn the importance of establishing goals 4. Be able to use the Planning Guide for Effective Rotary Guide to work with club members to establish club goals for the coming year. Learning Objectives

SESSION 8: STRATEGIC PLANNING & GOALSSETTING District 3310 PETS 2010/11 Definition of a Strategic Plan Strategic Planning is long range planning. It involves an analysis of the work environment, the economic issues, the trends, the existing competition. The trend of a strategic plan is to shape the future of the organisation, whether totally or partially.

SESSION 8: STRATEGIC PLANNING & GOALSSETTING District 3310 PETS 2010/11 Benefits of a Strategic Plan A strategic plan: Gives all club members the opportunity to be involved in planning the future of the club. Ensures consistency and continuity among those who carry out the goals. Focus on significant issues and challenges facing the club. Promotes teamwork and commitment to strategic issues.

SESSION 8: STRATEGIC PLANNING & GOALSSETTING District 3310 PETS 2010/11 Implementation of the Strategic Plan Priorities have to be reviewed. Owners have to renew commitment or re-appointed. Plan to be shared with members and get their buy-in. Monitoring structure have to be established. Provide Resources Be Prepared to Change Direction Yearly Goals have to be re-validated.
