Windmills in the Sky Airborne Wind Turbine

What is it? An airborne wind turbine is a wind power generator for harvesting power in a high altitude (sky). It has no tower and work similar like a kite. This give the benefit to easy adapt to flowing (rough vs. smooth). ”Clean Future" Airborne Wind Turbine (AWT). N.p., 15 Sept Web. 31 July 2012.

The Structure

Global Issue Global Warming: Global warming is one of the biggest issue in the world. This were caused by pollution, fossil fuels in cars, factories/electricity production and many other more. Global warming can affect the climate change. "Causes of Global Warming." National Geographic. N.p., n.d. Web. 31 July 2012.

Global Issue How does wind power/wind mill help us? Wind turbines help us to reduce global warming by producing electricity by wind. The wind turn the windmill blades that turn an electrical generator which makes electricity. Normally power stations turn generators with steam made by boiling water with coal, gas, wood, etc. These are used up when burnt and this way cause pollution. Wind turbines help us by not polluting, by saving energy.

Negative For the airborne to use and produce energy/electricity, the place or the area must have strong wind and breeze. If the area is dry and windless, the sky windmill can’t be productive (useless). This also can cause loud noise. The wind at 1000 feet is violent and the sporadic nature of wind in and of itself is a major threat. This device come down like a rock. It will either that or will snap the cables holding it to the ground, travel a short distance and come crashing down. This is dangerous because it can crash a house nearby (if there is) and can cause injuries to an innocent bystander. Expensive and much cost to make.

Positive Effects This windmill in the sky can produce 250 times more than the windmill in the ground. The energy that the wind can produce in the altitude of 80 meters is around 72 trillion watts. This will help reduce global warming because this device is a pollution-free device. There are almost many places especially in high-altitude that have strong winds, which can produce stronger watts for people using the windmill in the sky.

World Factors #1 Economic General Electric sells more than $8bn a year of turbines and this is only the beginning of a success. A single UK onshore wind turbine can make €500,000 of pure profit per year. A 2MW (megawatt) turbine can now generate power worth €200,000 on a market, plus another €200,000 from taxpayers.

World Factors #2 Environmental This sky windmill, doesn’t need any much electricity and only need one of the elements, which is air/wind. This device is a pollution-free, that will decrease less of global warming. Investors says that “Windmills in the sky tackle global warming.”

World Factors #3 Social: This windmill in the sky help people to get energy in more safely way. People will learn that airborne windmill is a better way to produce energy because it will decrease global warming. It provides clean electricity to people with a cheaper price than other renewable sources such as solar or hydropower. Windmills also doesn’t destroy its surrounding unlike the hydroelectric dam which can make fishes die.
