©2007 Dr. Karl Squier 1 Individual Counselors Planning for Results Toolkit 7 Overview

©2007 Dr. Karl Squier 2 Why We Plan To make sure that we are fully prepared to fulfill our responsibilities as school counselors To identify and maximize our potential for contributing to student success To figure out how to actualize our vision for school counseling in our daily practice To demonstrate to others that school counselors are a vital and integral part of school reform

©2007 Dr. Karl Squier 3 What Happens When We Don’t Plan We lack a clear sense of the results we expect to achieve and how to achieve them Critical activities fall through the cracks and are never implemented We are tyrannized by continuous crisis management We lack the ability to assess the impact of what we are doing that contributes to student success

©2007 Dr. Karl Squier 4 What We Can Do About It Recognize that individual planning is as important as school and district planning Clearly identify our role in the successful implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program Define what results we personally want to achieve in the school year Work in collaboration with other counselors, teachers and school leaders to implement the program Demonstrate individual accountability for contributing to student success and school reform
