Adaptive Thermostat Using Bluetooth Scott Snyder, Team Leader Thomas Lawrence Jennifer Ogunlowo Mark Youngblood

Project Description The adaptive digital thermostat is a cost- effective and facile system that allows a user to maintain a personal temperature while present without any physical adjustment. Uses Bluetooth to “sense” users

How it works… 1. Thermostat with Bluetooth adapter 2. Adapter polls once every two seconds 3. Bluetooth-enabled phone responds

How it works… 4. Adapter gets phone’s device name (ID) 5. Adapter passes name to microcontroller 6. Microcontroller looks up preference 7. Operates like a normal thermostat ID

Project Goals Basic cooling and heating functions Can sense presence of users Variable temperature control Temperature set to users’ preferences Displays temperature on thermostat LCD Menu system for adding users

Market Research Current thermostat options include Mechanical, Digital, & Wireless. No similar products on the market HVAC market has grown 24% over the last 19 years.

Suggested Retail Value Costs: R&D: $ Overhead:$1.1 million Production: $89.92 per unit Producing 32,000 units with a 10% profit margin gives suggested retail price of $ Cheaper than high end thermostat ($200).
