PADSHE Presentation Dr Angela Smallwood University of Nottingham Wednesday 9 June 1999

PADSHE - An academic-driven initiative Meeting academics’ needs From TQA to RoA Practical, pragmatic and transferable Implementation: freedom within guidelines

Meeting academics’ needs Personal tutoring within modular schemes Evidencing the quality of student support and guidance Streamlining administration for academics enhancing liaison between academic and student support departments, especially careers service

From TQA to RoA TQA - we (academics) evidence what we value in what we already do PLUS meet any new demands and streamline our procedures - departmental records We share the evidence and procedures with the students - dual records We make them usable by students for their purposes - the basis for and RoA

Practical, pragmatic, transferable Start from where we are Address immediate needs and targets First steps - a foundation on which to build a culture change Transfer between faculties at Nottingham Transfer to four PADSHE universities… 6000 students using PARs (March 1999)

Implementation Guidelines for quality also relate external demands and institutional policy objectives Freedom within guidelines –specific needs –identification and ownership
