The role tea production plays in producer countries: statistical / analytical frameworks for monitoring and policy development

Introduction On-going concern on the role of tea export earnings in food security, particularly how they impact smallholders. Smallholder tea production issues and constraints. Remedial recommendations: ◦ Economic: Tea production and productivity; export and imports of tea, national income from tea; ◦ Social: Rural population, rural poverty, rural employment, food security, sanitation and water ◦ Environmental: Agriculture and water use and availability.

Next steps… Work with four/five focus countries to collect data for the Socio-economic statistical framework for small-holder tea producers. Analyse the data with the countries to better understand the ways small holders can be assisted. Implement Socio-economic statistical/analysis frameworks in countries with regular updating, monitoring and analysis.
