Aim: How can we carry out a Socratic Seminar discussion about the Declaration of Independence?  Do Now: Take out your annotated copy of the Declaration of Independence and your task work on loose-leaf.  Take out your HW assignment to be collected.

Expectations  Use the text and specific examples to support your response  Listen to others and build a stronger response by agreeing or disagreeing with others  Explain your reasons for your thoughts  Ask related questions based on what others say

Questions  Should people have the right to alter or abolish their government?  Were ALL people created “equal” during the 1700s?  How does “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” relate to our everyday lives? Rules  One Mic: Do NOT talk over people and interrupt others  You do NOT have to raise your hand  Disagree with others in a respectful manner by explaining your reason  The outer circle should remain silent until their turn
