Presentation Rural Public Access Centres - Background  Accessing the Information Society (IS), means a great opportunity to improve people’s quality of life  Nevertheless, it could be a reason for discrimination due to the difference of opportunities for people depending on their possibility to access the Internet  Lack of broadband access by terrestrial technologies in remote and rural areas remains an unsolved issue mainly due to profitability reasons.

Success keys  Red.es provides a complete solution with integral support service.  The ultimate objective of the Programme is to provide broadband Internet access to citizens living in rural or remote areas.  Centers are equipped with 4 networked terminals, Wireless LAN and peripheral units (printer, scannner and webcam).  Budget financed by EU ERDF, Red.es, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Industry and County Councils.  County Councils are engaged to develop training and dynamization activities to encourage the citizens to use these public access centers. The solution is based on a complete, closed and customizable product. The product is defined by six components: Connectivity Equipment and hot spot Control and management Installation and support Training and Encouraging Internet use Portals 3 years of Broadband Internet connectivity Equipment of the centre and set up a public “hot spot” 3 years of support and maintenance of the equipment Portals with appropriate contents for rural areas 3 years of remote control and management Training and dynamization services Rural Public Access Centers - Product

 A new Agreement is about to be signed to enable further actions during  The new Agreement aims at further extending the network of Broadband Public Access Centers.  new Access Public Centers installed in rural areas and depressed urban areas.  Nearly all the Spanish municipalities with a population between 500 to inhabitants will benefit from broadband Internet access through the Public Access Centers installed.
