IEEE 802Emergency Services Exec. Committee Study Group Report to IETF ECRIT Geoff Thompson/GraCaSI (supported by Interdigital) Study Group/WG Chair IETF ECRIT Session Anaheim, CA USA Monday, March 22, 2010

Emergency Services EC SG Sked to become new WG on March 25, 2010 Created at July '09 Plenary as an ECSG (i.e. all 802) Successor to ES Study Group PAR attempt, July ' effort had broad scope ES-ECSG/ has very narrow scope for 1 st project Support IETF VoIP Emergency Services call via ECRIT

Scope limiting Citizen to Authority Authority to Authority Citizen to Citizen Authority to Citizen (excluding callback)

Scope limiting IETF VoIP via ECRIT 3GPP, WiMAX Forum, etc

Scope (text required to be included in final standard) This standard defines a media independent framework within IEEE 802 to provide consistent access and data that facilitate compliance to applicable civil authority requirements for communications systems that include IEEE 802 networks. This includes a data link layer interface for a consistent view of IEEE 802 networks by IP (Internet Protocol) based citizen-to-authority emergency services capabilities from the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) Emergency Context Resolution with Internet Technologies (ECRIT). This standard specifies a layer 2 entity and associated behaviors with a uniform structure of management information for transferring data required by an emergency services request.

Initial Scope (What it really means) Establish liaison relationship with ECRIT Work with ECRIT on location for 802 L1/L2 for VoIP (and multimedia follow ons) Harmonize/reconcile differences between existing 802 location stuff in different WGs Open dialog w/ ECRIT / IETF for other support for ES communications Set the precedent for interfaces/mechanisms to be used by other L3 and up organizations

ES-ECSG Report to ECRIT Planned meetings of : Geneva, Switzerland (co-loc.1/.3), May 24-27, '10 San Diego, CA (802 Plenary), July 11-16, 2010 TBD (Kona or St. Petersburg, Russia?) Sept, 2010 Dallas, TX (802 Plenary), November 7-12, 2010 (directly in conflict w/ IETF79 in Beijing)

ES-ECSG Report to ECRIT Documents: No drafts yet. When available will be password protected (rule from IEEE SA re their copyright). Drafts will be made available to ECRIT on a liaison basis. Documents to date have been about getting the project started. All non-draft documents will be openly available on our document server. Drafts only to available to “participants” Mail list members are “participants” but passwords will be filtered from mail archive.

ES-ECSG Report to ECRIT Web sites: General WG web site: http: //ieee802.org/ecsg/ (Mail list subscribe information here) Drafts will be in a linked sub-directory of the above page Document server: https: //mentor.ieee.org/802-sg-emergency-services/documents Probably will become: https: //mentor.ieee.org/802-23/documents
