Dealing with change and coping strategies To be familiar with the practices at your new school and be able to suggest methods of coping with them To meet and work with new people

What’s PSHE all about? Lots of discussion! But you will need to do some writing so we each have a folder For homework you are going to decorate your folder with things about you This could be family photos, hobbies, interests etc Write this in your planner

Links of Friendship... On your sheet is a grid of qualities that people may have Your job is to find someone who fits into each category You can only use each person once

Moving forward When you do something for the 1 st time, it is natural to look forward to it and feel anxious about it How did you feel when you moved from infants to juniors? What do you think are the main problems about coming to a new school? Tell a partner then feedback

Feeling nervous? What are the best ways of coping with feeling nervous about being at a new school? In the thought bubbles on your sheet, try to come up with some strategies together

Learn the layout of the school Ask for help Do things slowly, don’t rush Try out new things, e.g. lunch clubs What else?

Where am I going? On your school plan, try to colour in all the rooms that you will have lesson in this year

Who’s who? You will need to know who’s who in our school Let’s see what we know already!

How have I done today? Your target for today was : “to be able to recognise strong emotions and identify ways of managing these positively.” Finish the following sentences “Starting a new school has made me feel...” “I can help myself to cope in my new surrounding by...”

Goal! Your last challenge is to set yourself a goal for this week It could be joining a new club, learning the names of all your teachers, finding your way around school or just being strong enough to ask for help
