Since 2000: Coordinating body for implementing EU Water Framework Directive (WFD) in Danube River Basin District: Integrated water management on basin-wide scale Environmental objectives by 2015 legal requirement Joint Programme of Measures as part of Danube River Basin Management Plan

Growing Concern & Motivation How to ensure sustainable water protection Danube Basin water bodies & Natura 2000 sites if major infrastructure projects will be built?
