Presentation transcript:

Host institute: Institut de Radio Astronomie Millimétrique (IRAM) French (CNRS) / German (MPG) / Spanish (IGN) institute About 120 staff, including ~20 astronomers (Fr+Sp) Operates two major mm instruments: 30m Pico Veleta & Plateau de Bure interferometer => NOEMA Technical development center ARC node based on: Plateau de Bure/NOEMA support: GILDAS software, f2f user support in Grenoble Strong involvement in ALMA: Design phase, SSR group, ALMA/ACA imaging studies Construction: Band 7 cartridges, sampler clocks, TelCal software CSV, Band 2+3 studies IRAM ARC node (Grenoble)

ARC node representative: Frédéric Gueth + significant help from NOEMA/GILDAS/software groups ARC node expertise: Calibration, low SNR, atmospheric phase correction (→ TelCal software) Imaging, wide-field imaging, short spacings inclusion Data analysis (→ GILDAS, CLASS software) NameStatusFTEExpertise/task Edwige ChapillonStaff0.5CS, QA2, f2f Gaelle DumasPost-doc0.5CS, QA2, f2f Sergio Martin-RuizPost-doc0.3CS, QA2, f2f Arancha Castro-CarrizoStaff0.1CS, f2f Melanie KripsStaff0.1CS, f2f Vincent PietuStaff0.1CS, f2f IRAM ARC node (Grenoble)

Major current activities: Contact scientists for French/German (MPG)/Spanish projects f2f user support (visits at IRAM Grenoble) QA2 support CASA/GILDAS fillers → use GILDAS tools on ALMA data TelCal software (→ long baseline campaign) Band 7 maintenance, Band 2+3 studies mm-VLBI Funding: ARC node is funded by IRAM operation budget + specific contribution (delegated staff) from IRAM Partners Use of all IRAM resources: administration, computing, etc. IRAM ARC node (Grenoble)

Future perspectives: Keep current staffing, i.e. small node (~1.5 FTE) Focus on user support & data reduction Use/maximize technical and scientific synergies with IRAM instruments (30m and NOEMA) → mm interferometry user support center Issues/concerns: Limited manpower, in particular wrt number of projects to support IRAM node mandate is user support, not instrument support → limits involvement in JAO/ARC core tasks IRAM ARC node (Grenoble)
