Two categories: Academic, Professional Issues: Level and nature of programs consistent with mission Well defined, differ from undergraduate programs Doctoral level appropriate; greater than for master’s Standard 2.D – Graduate Program “A graduate program is a set of advanced academic experiences beyond the baccalaureate level which must be satisfactorily completed to warrant the award of a graduate degree such as a master’s or doctorate.”

Issues: Required resources (facilities, equipment, labs, library) Resources to initiate and maintain graduate programs Appropriate full-time faculty Adequate in number and disciplinary diversity Off-campus delivery Standard 2.E – Graduate Faculty and Related Resources “Essential … are the recruitment and retention of a faculty that excels in scholarship, teaching and research … a major commitment to graduate education … are involved in keeping pace with & advancing frontiers of knowledge.”

Issues: Admission policies consistent with mission, published, available Admission criteria established by graduate* faculty Admission based on information submitted Graduation requirements set by graduate* faculty Transfer of graduate credit is evaluated by faculty Internships, field experiences, clinical practices, and experiential learning Standard 2.F – Graduate Records and Academic Credit “Graduate admission and retention policies are compatible with institutional mission and goals. Graduate program faculty are involved in specifying admission criteria, transfer of graduate credit, and graduation requirements.”
