COACHING and COMMUNICATION PSYCHOLOGY HESWALL SQUASH CLUB CHANGE AND RAPPORT Presented by Danny Massaro (INLPTA Practitioner)

CHANGE (Robert Dilts) PRESENT STATE + RESOURCES = DESIRED STATE INTERFERENCES 231 Interferences take 3 forms: Want to – the person must desire change. If any part of them objects, then you need to explore the parts intent and work with it. Area of BELIEFS. Know how to – if you don’t know how to create a representation of what you want, then you cannot move towards it. Area of STRATEGIES. Chance to – sometimes it takes time to reach your desired state. If you give up after a few days you haven’t had CHANCE to do it. IT IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT THAT YOU WANT TO CHANGE, KNOW HOW TO CHANGE, AND BELIEVE IT IS POSSIBLE TO DO SO

7 Dynamics of Change (activity) 1.People will feel awkward, ill at ease and self conscious 2.People will think about what they have to give up 3.People will feel alone, even when everyone else is going through the change 4.People can handle only so much change 5.People are at different levels of readiness for change 6.People will be concerned that they don’t have enough resources (time, skills, support, money etc..) 7.If you take the pressure off, people will then revert back to old behaviour

4 LEVELS OF RAPPORT “ Gaining rapport is the first step to any communication…the oil which helps the engine to run smoother” “ Gaining rapport is the first step to any communication…the oil which helps the engine to run smoother” “People like people like them” 1.NON VERBAL LEVEL – match body language posture, gestures, facial expressions, eye contact 2.VOICE LEVEL – match breathing rate, tone, pitch 3.LANGUAGE LEVEL – match process words 4.BELIEFS and VALUES – understand them (their maps of reality not yours)
