Listen carefully, long vowels always say their own names Listen carefully, long vowels always say their own names. Long vowel “u” sounds like this “u”. Words with long vowel “u” can be spelled like this. Take a look at the following examples. EXAMPLES: 1.- u_e: mule tube 2.- u: music menu

Read and listen carefully to the following words. They all have the sound of long vowel “u”. Repeat them after me (loudly and slowly). Ready? united uniform flute music fuse cute use huge rule refuse

Next, let’s review the short sound of “u” Next, let’s review the short sound of “u”. Do you remember what short “u” sounds like? It sounds like this “u” as in fun, cup, tub, cub. Let’s practice, get a pen and a piece of paper. Write numbers 1 to 10 in one column. Listen to the words, repeat them and on the piece of paper, write “s” for short or “l” for long.
