WHO WAS LANGSTON HUGHES?  James Mercer Langston Hughes  A famous American poet, social activist, playwright, and journalist  One of the earliest innovators of the literary art form called jazz poetry.  Awards: Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, Spingarn Medal, Quill Award for Poetry  Attended Lincoln & Columbia University
