Forecasting the Weather Two ways to forecast weather 1. Scientific methods 2. Folklore

Scientific Methods Involves the use of various equipment to record temperature, winds, pressure systems, humidity, etc. This information is placed into computer models and a forecast is predicted.

Folklore Involves the use of folklore and proverbs to help forecast the weather. This information was based on observations of daily weather conditions, clouds, temperature, and reaction of Animal and plant behaviour.

Examples of Folklore Red sky at night sailors delight; Red sky in morning sailors take warning Lots of dogberries in the fall is a Sign that there will be lots of snow in the winter

Examples of Folklore A ring around the moon brings wind or snow When the moon is in her house, rain or snow will come

Examples of Folklore Sea gull, sea gull, sit on the sand. It’s a sign of rain when you are at hand A storm is coming I can feel it in my bones
