Performance Requirements J. Lewis Level 2 Loya Jurga 7 December 2001

12/07/01Level 2 Loya Jurga2 Goals Winter/Spring 2002 (Phase 1) –Get results for summer conferences –W, Z, top, B s mixing –Highest priority: inclusive jets, photons, electrons, muons and B  h + h - X (SVT) –L  0.5e32 –Maximum L2 accept cross section 6000 nb –100 pb -1 Summer/Fall 2002 (Phase 2) –Searches, full physics menu –L  1.0e32 –Maximum L2 accept cross section 3000 nb, i.e. CDF/4718 –300 pb -1

12/07/01Level 2 Loya Jurga3 Implementation: Phase 1 “CDF/4718 Light” trigger plan –Assumes no Iso, RECES, or muon information –Some degradation of physics Raise photon thresholds Raise thresholds or eliminate many SUSY lepton triggers Boutique triggers (  jj, multijet, etc.) lower priority –Can survive with simpler versions –Try to live with low inclusive muon and electron thresholds to keep the physics –I put in fudge factors in many triggers based on my assessment of reliability of estimates –Keep to 6000 nb budget –Big uncertainties in inclusive muon trigger rates

12/07/01Level 2 Loya Jurga4 Implementation: Phase 2 Need full functionality of lepton triggers Need SVT-based triggers to meet cross section expectations –Adjust cuts???? Need full functionality for boutique triggers Need to cut harder on muons –Fallback plan: Enhance Level 1 Swap azimuthal granularity for pT thresholds –{1.5;4.0} {1.5+,1.5-; 4.0, 8.0} Use extra bits and L1 interface path to do additional correlations –12 30 o wedges for CMUP Cut nb from Phase 1 table

12/07/01Level 2 Loya Jurga5 You want it when?!? Need to stay one step ahead of luminosity improvements –Also need some headroom since event size is still large and rates are all higher than expectations Now –For the next two months, to get to what resembles our physics table, we need: Jets (including cut on number) Electrons (without Reces) Photons Two SVT

12/07/01Level 2 Loya Jurga6 Schedule, cont. February and beyond –Assuming the accelerator delivers, to keep live, we need: Lepton+track Boutique SUSY, search triggers RECES and ISO cuts would be nice Cuts using additional muon bits from L1 interface Hurdles –All new L2 code will need to be tested in tagging mode for ~weeks to insure it is working –Now assembling first “physics” table for January Real physics datasets, paths (L3, L1) L2 cuts are still only on Jets

12/07/01Level 2 Loya Jurga7 Other Issues for Physics Need stability and documentation –L2 code and executable versions must be easily accessible to physicists analyzing data –Code cannot change underneath a Physics trigger table Need monitoring and analysis tools –Need to be able to simulate L2 decisions offline
