ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDERS CONTRIBUTION TO WORLD WAR 1 BY STEVEN, BRYCE AND BROOKE

ENLISTMENT AND SERVICE WORLD WAR 1 When war broke out in 1914, many indigenous Australian's were rejected because of their race, when they tried to sign up for war. People rejected the Indigenous Australians because they were different and they didn’t fit in. When it was harder to find recruits the army needed a lot of men to go to war so they let Indigenous Australians to go to World War 1.

WHY ABORIGINALS JOINED THE WW1 Indigenous people joined the army so they could show that they are as equal as the European settlers. The Australians also got 6 shillings per every day trip so the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people couldn’t resist the offer.

WORKING WITH WHITE PEOPLE Aboriginals were fighting with other people. There was a lot of racisum happening and bigotry. Some of the white people were working with the aboriginal for the first time and an a experience.
